COR™ development services and assistance

The Certificate of Recognition (COR™) is often required for public and private sector construction contracts in Ontario. We prepare your company to achieve COR™.

How we help

Companies with COR™ improve their chances when bidding on projects. Our health and safety team takes you through the whole process:

  • Develop and implement a health and safety program with all the required COR™ policies and procedures
  • Deliver all training required by the COR™ audit
  • Implement the program and orient all workers and supervisors to it
  • Show supervisors and workers how to complete the required site forms and documents
  • Run a training needs analysis to confirm all training records are current
  • Set up a COR™ record of training system (hard copy)
  • Conduct an internal audit so you are ready for the external audit

Eligibility

  • An active WSIB account
  • A senior management representative designated to oversee the occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS)
  • An OHSMS in place for at least one year before the initial audit

The steps

  • Register: complete a COR™ application with your company information and WSIB account. Once registered, you can use the registration number when bidding.
  • Training: the designated senior manager completes COR Essentials, in class or online. One full-time employee, designated as internal auditor, completes COR Essentials, Basic Auditing Principles, COR Internal Auditor and Introduction to Hazard & Risk Management. We recommend training more than one employee.
  • Internal and external audits
  • Certificate of Recognition achieved
  • Continual improvement

Audit scoring

To pass an internal or external COR™ audit, your company must achieve:

  • An overall score of 80%
  • At least 65% on each COR™ element
  • 100% on all legislated requirements
